Karel Bluma was born on 1 September 1937 in Kokory near Přerov. His childhood was marked by the Second World War - he remembers German soldiers in his house and the crash of an American Liberator bomber near the village. After the war, he trained as a locksmith at Přerov Machine Works, where he worked for four decades. He completed his military service as an aircraft mechanic in a fighter regiment, at which time he was contacted by military counter-intelligence. After returning from the war, he married Eva Horáková and together they raised three children. He joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ), but after the occupation of the country in August 1968 he expressed his opposition to the entry of Warsaw Pact troops and was expelled from the party, which had consequences for his children’s further studies. Thanks to the support of the workshop leader, he kept the same position at work. After 1989 he welcomed the political changes and the opportunity to travel freely. He retired in 1997 and that same year he helped after the floods in Troubky. Karel Bluma remained an active member of Sokol and in 2025 lived in Kokory.
