  • "But I have the impression that it's not like it used to be, that we were more of a society. To each other, to be friends as much as possible. The fact is, nobody envied anybody anything - it didn't exist, there was something like that between us."

  • "Well, then the communists came, and they nationalized my father's factory, so we had to leave and we moved to Opava, and I finished high school in Opava. I graduated from high school there in 1952. Then I took the exams for the mining and technical chool in Ostrava, the university. I was admitted and during the holidays I received a paper from the construction faculty in Prague asking me if I had already applied somewhere, if I would like to do construction work instead of where I had applied - that I could simply enter the construction plant in Prague without exams. I thought: So should I study technical university or construction? I couldn't imagine it at that time. So I nodded and went to Prague to the construction faculty."

  • "We lived in Zlín, and I joined Scouting and Junák in Zlín when I was eight years old, then there was the war, and that's how it ended. So we, because the leader of those scouts was our neighbour, so we met with those kids all the time, even during the war, like we were doing that activity. Then after the war it became more widespread. I also have a sign somewhere that says I fulfilled my scout promise in 1945."

Rudolf Zlobický was born on July 20, 1931 in Kroměříž, where his grandmother came from. From his early childhood he lived with his father, mother and two half-siblings in Zlín. His father worked in a high position in the Baťa company. His mother took care of the household, but died when her son was six years old. At the age of eight, he became a member of Junák in Zlín, and he continued scouting secretly during the war. He was able to fulfill his promise only after 1945. He studied at a grammar school first in Olomouc and then in Opava. In 1952 he graduated and enrolled at the Mining University in Ostrava. Eventually he entered the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. After graduation he moved to Teplice and started working as a designer of water management structures. After the Velvet Revolution, he actively participated in the revival of scouting activities in Teplice. Among other things, he was active in the district council of Junák and in the Old Scouts Club in Teplice and Ústí nad Labem. In retirement he worked as a guide in Europe and America. Rudolf Zlobický died on July 9, 2024.
