Gregory Tigrid was born in New York City in 1958, the third child of Pavel Tigrid and Ivana Tigridová. His father worked as a waiter, his mother was a housewife and did odd jobs. When Gregory was two years old, his parents moved to the northern suburbs of Paris, France. Gregory’s maternal grandmother lived with the family the whole time, so the Tigrid children grew up in a completely Czech environment. Following elementary school in the Paris suburb, he graduated from a language school in Fontainebleau. He then studied English and German at the Sorbonne and briefly attended school in Brighton, UK. After his studies, he worked at the Svědectví magazine as a graphic designer and clerk, and later opened a print shop; he owns a small graphic design company today. Gregory Tigrid has been involved in the production of Svědectví throughout its existence (graphic design, communication with the printer in Bruges, Belgium, etc.). He also experienced an StB gas attack on the Svědectví editorial office in the Latin Quarter in Paris. He first visited Czechoslovakia after 1989 and has been visiting the Czech Republic regularly since. He is married and has two children.
