The following text is not a historical study. It is a retelling of the witness’s life story based on the memories recorded in the interview. The story was processed by external collaborators of the Memory of Nations. In some cases, the short biography draws on documents made available by the Security Forces Archives, State District Archives, National Archives, or other institutions. These are used merely to complement the witness’s testimony. The referenced pages of such files are saved in the Documents section.

Antonina Szymkiewicz (* 1921)

• Urodziła się 11 marca 1921 roku w mazurskiej wsi Wilimy koło Biskupca

• Ukończyła szkołę podstawową i trzyletnią szkołę, w której uczyła się prac domowych

• Przed nadejściem wojsk radzieckich próbowała uciec w głąb Niemiec, jednak było już za późno

• Wraz z siostrą po zamarzniętym Zalewie Wiślanym przedostała się do Królewca

• Po roku wróciła do rodzinnej wsi na Mazurach

• Raz jeszcze próbowała wyjechać do Niemiec, jednak nie dostała pozwolenia

• W 1947 roku wyszła za mąż za Polaka

• Obecnie jest emeryturze
