Věra Machálková, née Jurčíková, was born November 18, 1927 in a small town called Ludslavice. She grew up with her sisters Marie and Vlasta. Her father Alois worked as a tax official in Holešov, which is where the family moved in early 1930s. During World War II her father engaged in activities of the resistance group TVCO (Secret Military and Civilian Organization). His son in law Jan Marek, who married his first-born daughter Marie, became its leader for the Bystřice district in February 1943. In January 1945 Jan was badly hurt during his arrest by the Gestapo at a station in Bystřice nad Hostýnem and died during his transport to Přerov. Věra was brought up Catholic and in a patriotic spirit. In the pre-war era she attended Sokol and the girl Scout troop in Holešov and continued to do so after the war. She graduated from a household school. She became a dressmaker and worked in a shop with yard goods and baby clothes in Holešov. She married Radoslav Machálek in 1954 and the couple had two sons – Radovan and Dalibor. During the second renewal of Junák in 1968-1970 she took part in the activities of the Scout Group in Holešov. She lives in Holešov.
