The following text is not a historical study. It is a retelling of the witness’s life story based on the memories recorded in the interview. The story was processed by external collaborators of the Memory of Nations. In some cases, the short biography draws on documents made available by the Security Forces Archives, State District Archives, National Archives, or other institutions. These are used merely to complement the witness’s testimony. The referenced pages of such files are saved in the Documents section.

Pavel Kohn (* 1929  †︎ 2017)

Domů? Co to znamená doma?

  • narodil se 14. října 1929 v Praze

  • v roce 1942 byla rodina transportována do Terezína

  • roku 1944 už bez otce, který v Terezíně zemřel, deportováni do tzv. rodinného tábora v Osvětimi - Birkenau

  • tam prošel v roce 1944 selekcí a byl odvezen do pracovního tábora Blechhammer

  • pochodem smrti se v roce 1945 dostal do Buchenwaldu

  • v dubnu 1945 osvobozen americkou armádou

  • po válce byl v ozdravovně na zámku Štiřín

  • v roce 1967 emigroval do Německa

  • od roku 1968 pracoval pro Svobodnou Evropu

  • zemřel na jaře 2017
