The following text is not a historical study. It is a retelling of the witness’s life story based on the memories recorded in the interview. The story was processed by external collaborators of the Memory of Nations. In some cases, the short biography draws on documents made available by the Security Forces Archives, State District Archives, National Archives, or other institutions. These are used merely to complement the witness’s testimony. The referenced pages of such files are saved in the Documents section.

Jana Vítková (* 1939)

People are afraid to say the word home country so that it is not just a blank motto. Like when we wore banners with the Soviet Union for the eternity.

  • born on December 3, 1939 in Rakovník

  • father Josef Klouček anti-Nazi resistance fighter, a member of the Defense of the Nation, belonged to the group of Jaroslav Fraňek (spy agent)

  • in 1941 his father was imprisoned in the Terezín Small Fortress, he drew dozens of portraits there, now they are stored in the Small Fortress Memorial

  • Father arrested three months after the birth of his daughter and died in prison in 1943

  • after 1948 the property of the family was expropriated, due to the class origin she was not allowed to enter university

  • worked in education, as a history and Czech teacher at the second stage of primary school for the longest time

  • in 1989 she helped in the Civic Forum in Mariánské Lázně

  • is a widow, lives in Mariánské Lázně
