Marie Ježková, née Cmolová, was born on 1 February 1936 in Dolní Němčí as one of ten children to Josef and Marie Cmolová. Her father Josef was a house painter. In Dolní Němčí, retail farmers founded the cooperative farm in the early 1950s. The Cmol family joined the cooperative only during the second wave of collectivisation. Marie helped out in the fields and then started working as a milkmaid. The local cooperative farm was one of the most progressive in the region in the 1970s and 1980s, and became famous for growing garlic. Marie Ježková was interested in folk culture. She earned her living by preparing and embroidering costumes, so she contributed to the revival of folklore in the 1960s.
