Jiří Jäger was born in Čistá near Rakovník on 19 November 1932. He comes from a family of farmers who for generations ran a farm with extensive fields. Jiří wanted to continue the family tradition. After the war, he entered a high school and graduated in 1951. However, due to his cadre profile, he was unable to continue his studies at the Agricultural College (his brother was already serving with the auxiliary military battalions (PTP) at the time). One year later, he tried to study at the College of Civil Engineering in Brno, but at the end of his first year he was expelled from the school and had to enlist in the autumn of 1953. He ended up with the PTP in the Kladno mines in Stochov. However, by then the PTP was already being disbanded and Jäger fell ill with jaundice, so he was taken to hospital after two months and then discharged home. After returning from the military, both brothers got to work on the farm (their mother had died in the meantime). In 1955, the pressure on peasants in Čistá to join the cooperative was monuting, so Jiří Jäger found a job on the state farm as a precaution. He became a zootechnician and worked for the breeders’ administration mainly in the Tachov region until retirement.
