The following text is not a historical study. It is a retelling of the witness’s life story based on the memories recorded in the interview. The story was processed by external collaborators of the Memory of Nations. In some cases, the short biography draws on documents made available by the Security Forces Archives, State District Archives, National Archives, or other institutions. These are used merely to complement the witness’s testimony. The referenced pages of such files are saved in the Documents section.

After his arrest, he ended up in Uherské Hradiště
born on March 5, 1932 in Dolní Bojanovice, Hodonín region
in scouts since childhood
apprenticed as an auto mechanic
after February 1948 he joined the anti-communist activities together with his friends from Bojanovice scouts
in the early 1950s the group was arrested, Herka was arrested in Kopřivnice and escorted to detention in Uherské Hradiště
in spring 1953 sentenced to a year in prison
as a result of an amnesty granted by President Antonín Zápotocký, his sentence was soon remitted
worked in a brickyard, enlisted in the PTP
after returning from the war, he found it difficult to find a job, he got a job as a garage foreman at Lacrum, where he worked until his retirement
after 1989 he became a member of the Confederation of Political Prisoners
was awarded as a participant in the anti-communist resistance
