Guardians against Totalitarianism through Children’s Eyes

The project “Guardians against Totalitarianism through Children’s Eyes” The project “Guardians against Totalitarianism through Children’s Eyes” is an innovative way of teaching students about modern history of our nation. Through their teacher’s supervision children film, audio record or write stories of World War II veterans, political prisoners and members of support technical battalions. These members were drafted to work in military labour camps. The second year of the project also included secondary schools. The students are compiling commemorative information to present for the twentieth anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in November 1989. The first project started in October 2007 with participation from 35 schools of almost every region of the Czech Republic. 20 video and 13 audio documentaries were submitted. The best of them were aired on the Czech Radio and the Czech Television. All project entries are available on the website www.bojovniciprotitotalite.cz. The project partners are: the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, the Czech Television, the Czech Radio, the Czech Veterans Association, the Czechoslovak Legion Community, the Confederation of Political Prisoners of the Czech Republic and the Union of Support Technical Battalions – Military Forced Labour Camps.
