The following text is not a historical study. It is a retelling of the witness’s life story based on the memories recorded in the interview. The story was processed by external collaborators of the Memory of Nations. In some cases, the short biography draws on documents made available by the Security Forces Archives, State District Archives, National Archives, or other institutions. These are used merely to complement the witness’s testimony. The referenced pages of such files are saved in the Documents section.

Petr Placák (* 1964)

• narozen 8. ledna 1964 v Praze

• otec MUDr. Bedřich Placák byl jedním z mluvčích Charty 77

• od mládí odpor vůči komunistickému režimu

• aktivní v undergroundu, v letech 1982-1986 klarinetistou skupiny Plastic People

• v roce 1988 stál u zrodu nezávislé iniciativy České děti

• od roku 1988 se aktivně účastnil všech protirežimních demonstrací

• během tzv. Palachova týdne v lednu 1989 zatčen, vyvázl s podmíněným trestem

• publikoval v samizdatu (prózy Medorek, Královský hrad a další...)

• po listopadu 1989 vystudoval historii na FF UK

• v roce 2008 získal za knihu Fízl cenu Magnesia Litera
