The following text is not a historical study. It is a retelling of the witness’s life story based on the memories recorded in the interview. The story was processed by external collaborators of the Memory of Nations. In some cases, the short biography draws on documents made available by the Security Forces Archives, State District Archives, National Archives, or other institutions. These are used merely to complement the witness’s testimony. The referenced pages of such files are saved in the Documents section.

JUDr. Jiří Navrátil (* 1923  †︎ 2017)

• narodil se 10. září 1923 v Lipsku v rodině diplomata

• po návratu do Čech vstup do Skauta

• 1944 – zatčen během skautsko-vlastenecké manifestace při sportovním utkání

• aktivně se zapojil do Pražského povstání

• účastník pochodu studentů na Pražský hrad 25. února 1948, vyhozen z PF UK

• 17. května 1949 zatčen za podíl na pokusu o státní převrat

• odsouzen pro velezradu

• řada vězení a uranových dolů

• propuštěn v roce 1960 při amnestii

• čistič bazénů na pražském Výstavišti, údržbář

• 1968 – novinář v časopisu Doba

• poté na volné noze jako překladatel

• od 1977 – redaktor kulturní rubriky týdeníku Naše rodina

• od prosince 1989 půl roku šéfredaktorem Lidové demokracie

• skautský funkcionář a nositel skautských vyznamenání

• zemřel 16. ledna 2017
