Jaromír Tůma was born on April 26, 1946 in Mělník. He completed the grammar school in Mělník and then he went to study at the University of Economics in Prague, but he did not complete his studies. While he was a grammar school student, he established his first music bands and through listening to foreign radio stations he was learning about music from the West. In 1985 he began to focus on publishing and he contributed to magazines like Mladý Svět (Young World) and Melodie, in which he later worked as an editor-in-chief. Until 1991 he worked as a DJ, and from 1993 he held the position of the chief dramaturgist for TV Nova, where he produced several programs. At present he works as a moderator of the program Větrník on Radio Beat. He wrote a total of nine books on music, travel, and wine after the Velvet Revolution.
